A guide on Dante's different styles: Swordmaster, Gunslinger, Trickster and Royal Guard.

Recommended Styles for Dante

Swordmaster

Average recommendation:★★★

Swordmaster Style can use the Style Action (○ button) of the equipped weapon. Dante has a very technical approach to attacking enemies in the air, but using Swordmaster makes continuing air combos easier.

Melee-focused

If you plan on focusing on melee attacks, the best style to use is Swordmaster. Using it allows you to increase the number of hits you land on enemies with melee attacks and avoid any gaps in your offense.

Trickster

Average Recommendation:★★★

The most notable feature of Trickster Style is the various evasive maneuvers performed using the Style Action (○ button.) This gives you a certain amount of invincibility frames, which makes it a useful tool against enemies and bosses. Using Sky Star (○ button) after a two-stage jump with Air Hike allows you to comfortably move around the map.

All-purpose Dodge

If you're not sure what Style to use, Trickster is a good default. Its unique abilities are important both in battle and when exploring the map. This makes it a versatile style that is simple to use.

Gunslinger

Average recommendation:★★

Gunslinger Style allows Dante to charge his guns. If you unlock Gunslinger Abilities in Nico's Shop, automatic charging and more variations of gun attacks become available. If you press and hold the Style Action (○ button) in the air, Dante can unleash a rain of bullets down on enemies. This makes it easy to raise your Stylish Rank by connecting combos from the air to the ground.

Use gun attacks during combos

It is quite difficult to knock down enemies using Gunslinger Style Actions alone, so it is better to incorporate the moves into combos.

Royal Guard

Average recommedantion:★

Can block enemy attacks

Allows you to block enemy attacks by consuming the Devil Trigger (DT) gauge. Performing a Royal Block (Just Guard) negates the consumption of the DT gauge if done properly. If the Royal Guard gauge accumulates through blocking, you can perform a counterattack.

Push back enemies by blocking

Royal Guard is not as commonly used as the other Styles. It is mainly used against lesser enemies but can be convenient when needing to guard against powerful boss attacks. If you perform a successful block, you can counterattack instantly. Since it requires a bit of timing, it is not recommended for beginners.
